Kobold appears out of nowhere between Hikaru and his sister.  "Did I hear what I think I heard?"

Kobold grabs the sister and jumps into the vortex with her.  "Don't worry, I'm not living, but I won't kill you, you are too valuable to me.  Cooperate and I will return you to your brother.  You can keep your magick, but you must teach me the magick.  I have spent billions of years trying to obtain the power to steal magick."
