A shadow leapt out of nowhere, and Luka covered her eyes, waiting for it all to end.

Damn... I was just activated, too. Why do I have to go like this? she screamed inwardly.

She heard a cry of pain, and Kaito toppled forward. The shadow leaped back into the bushes, snuffling. And Luka finally let her tears fall.

"D-damn it! Why'd you have to get in the way, baka? I thought you wanted to kill me! W-why are you suddenly s-saving me?" she shouted, making the canopy shudder above her with sobs.

Cradling Kaito's head in her lap, she sniffled into her sleeve.

"I-I don't know what's going on..."
